As France prepares for their Euro 2024 round of 16 match against Belgium, star forward Kylian Mbappé continues to struggle with wearing a protective mask. Describing it as “horrible,” Mbappé is using the mask due to a broken nose sustained during a clash in France’s 1-0 win over Austria on June 17.
Mbappé accidentally headbutted Austrian defender Kevin Danso, resulting in the injury. Although he initially didn’t realize the severity, he later saw his injury and was concerned about his tournament future. The French Football Federation confirmed that Mbappé wouldn’t need immediate surgery but required the mask to play.
The forward missed France’s 0-0 draw with the Netherlands but returned to score in the 1-1 draw against Poland. Mbappé has expressed frustration with the mask, noting it impairs his vision and comfort, making it difficult to play effectively. He has had to change masks multiple times due to discomfort.
Despite the challenge, Mbappé’s performance is crucial for France, who entered Euro 2024 as one of the favorites. His ability to contribute significantly is key to their progress in the tournament.
